His form was black as night and he emitted a great deal of power. He floated up to where Mom was floating above the field and stuck both hands into her back, causing her to cry out in pain.
I sent out a silent prayer to the heavens. Almost as soon as my prayer went up, three gods came out of the heavens and latched onto Joseph’s black form. The forms themselves became blurred as they fought, but I watched on silently, unable to move my eyes from the blurs of white and black. Suddenly the forms came to a stand still as Mom and the other three gods grabbed onto Joseph’s black form and ripped it apart, causing another surge of magic to ripple out over the field. This time though, the magic hit me in the chest, forcing me down to my knees. I fell onto my back, and lay there unable to breathe. Faces swam above me fuzzy as I’m unable to focus on them.
Fox’s POV
I rushed forward as Amaya fell to her knees. Cian tried to force his way to the forefront again, but I was able to push him down after convincing him I could help her. “What happened?” I asked Daniel.
“I don’t know. That last burst of magic must have done something to her,” he responded, looking completely lost.
“She has too much magic inside of her,” a voice sounded behind us. Our heads snapped in the direction of the voice, “Because he had her magic inside of him, when the link was broken, the magic went back into its original host.” A thin, older man with long grey hair walked up to where we were sitting with Amaya. “Here-” he started to reach out to Amaya, but Cian released a low powerful growl which stopped the man.
“I can feel her magic in him,” Cian growled in my head as he paced.
Our growl turned completely feral as I joined Cian. The man put his hands up in an attempt to placate us, “I only want to help.”
“Then why can my dragon feel her magic inside of you?” Cian and I growled out in a deep, guttural voice.
“Because I helped Joseph siphon off her magic, and as payment, Joseph gave me some,” he responded hesitantly.
“So you’re going to help yourself to the rest of it?” Daniel growled out, barely holding Ruairi in check.
“No,” he shrugs, “Well I mean the excess magic has to go somewhere, so yes I plan to take on the excess but I don’t plan to take all of it.”
I let out a loud growl, but I didn’t realize I had lunged at the man until I felt Daniel’s hands holding me back. “Leandra and Aurelia are on their way over.”
“Leandra and Aurelia Kazan?” The man asked.
We didn’t get the chance to answer as Leandra and Aurelia walked up to us. “Basil,” Leandra said in a terse voice. She looked down at Amaya and over at Aurelia, “Help me pull the excess magic off of her.”
Aurelia nodded after giving Basil a quick glare. They recited an incantation and Amaya’s body convulsed. Basil said something to the girls in a language that sounded like Italian, causing the girls to both look up at him. “You need me,” he said in English.
“We don’t need you,” Aurelia bit out before turning back to Amaya. She and Leandra recited another incantation which caused Amaya to convulse again.
“I’m happy to help,” Basil bent down and tucked Leandra’s hair behind one of her ears.
I didn’t see Ian anywhere around us, until he was in front of us picking Basil up by his throat. Leandra rushed over to try to calm Ian who was growling low. “Ian, cuore mio, let him go. We need him to help Amaya,” Basil gave Leandra a smirk at her admitting to needing him, “You can kill him after.”
Ian finally looked over at Leandra, who gave him an encouraging nod. Ian gave one last low growl before throwing Basil to the ground. He coughed before getting up and brushing the dirt off his clothes, “I would rather you didn’t kill me after.”
“Help my queen and I might not kill you, but if she dies I won’t be the one to kill you but I can guarantee it will be slow and painful,” Ian responded before linking his hand with Leandra’s and walking back over to us.
“Queen? Of which kingdom?” Basil asked, walking back over to Amaya.
“All of them. She’s the Queen of the Dragons,” Aurelia responded, not looking at Basil.
Basil looked down at Amaya in shock, “Fuck.”
“Fuck is right, jackass,” Leandra said, turning back to Amaya.
Together the three of them recited the first incantation, but this time I felt her magic flow out of her and into the three sorcerers. Aurelia waved a hand over Amaya, and looked up at us, “She’s stabilized as far as her magic goes, but she needs a healer.”
“Lavi and Stefan are on their way,” Daniel said.
I gazed down at Amaya as Cian paced in my mind. “She’s not waking up,” Cian growled.
“Why isn’t she waking up?” I asked frantically, looking up at the sorcerers.
Leandra put her hands over Amaya’s body and closed her eyes, “I don’t know. Other than her physical injuries, she’s fine. Her magic has stabilized, so she should be awake.”
“Let me take a look,” Lavi said as she and Stefan walked up to us.
The sorcerers stepped back to allow Lavi and Stefan access. The two healers hovered their hands barely above Amaya with their eyes closed before uttering various incantations. They worked for what felt like hours until finally they looked up at Daniel and me. “Her wounds are mostly healed.”
“Then why isn’t she waking up?” I asked again in a desperate tone.
Lavi shook her head as sadness planted itself on her face, “I don’t know.”
Daniel put a hand on my shoulder, “Let’s get her inside.”
I nodded as I put my arms under her head and legs and lifted her easily; my heartbeat picked up when I felt how cold she was. We made it halfway to the house when someone’s laughter broke through the relative quiet.
“He did it. He actually did it.”
I turned slowly, trying to keep Cian in check. I turned to see the man who growled at me when Amaya had her trial. Daniel walked up to him, “Who did what LeBlanc?”
“Joseph. He-he actually killed her,” LeBlanc responded hesitantly. Daniel and I both growled loudly, causing LeBlanc to attempt to get to his feet, but one of Mathias’s warriors kept him on his knees. LeBlanc struggled against her grip, “I’m a king. You can’t do this to me.”
