Prologue

In simple terms dyslexia is what we call a brain that is not only wired differently but also moves faster than a normal brain.  When the brain begins a thought and the thoughts begin connecting faster than the rest of the body can comprehend we end up with letters or words or sentences out of order.  The brain is simply moving too fast for the hand to keep up with this exchange of ideas firing so rapidly.  So you can kind of see why dyslexics have such a hard time translating their ideas to the people around them because in the dyslexic’s mind everything is processed and organized quickly and efficiently; this is what makes our problem solving skills so much better than a normal person’s.  You see we take the problem and can see every solution in a nanosecond, then it’s merely taking the quickest solution and applying it to the problem at hand.

They called it a school for kids like me, kids with dyslexia. To help us learn to adapt and deal with our “learning disability,” but we figured out early on what we had been told and what we were really there for were two different things entirely.  This disability, scientists discovered, wasn’t actually a disability at all; it was, to them, one of the greatest weapons the world has ever seen.  And it all started with us.  They call us the Chipped.

We are the new defense system; integrated into law enforcement, military, and intelligence agencies we help them do their jobs better, more efficiently, and keep them safe while they keep you safe.  And I, at the tender age of twenty-three, am the leader of it all.

At sixteen my parents received a letter from Mr. President himself stating I was to be given special admittance into a school that would help me “overcome” my dyslexia.  What they failed to mention in the letter was I wouldn’t be overcoming my disorder, but they would be exploiting it.
