I nodded my head sharply before returning to my group. “What was that about?” Fox asked quietly.
I shook my head, “Later,” Fox nodded his understanding and kissed my temple.
The rest of the night passed quickly without further incident. Once we made it back to the hotel room, Fox turned to me, “So what happened with the Rear Admiral?”
I sighed, “He threatened to make your life a living hell if I didn’t give him the answer he was looking for.”
“About The Ghost?”
I nodded, “I told him if I heard even one complaint from you, I would have him stripped of his rank and busted down so far he couldn’t see the sun.”
Fox laughed, “And how exactly are you going to manage that?”
I shrugged, “We have plenty of contacts in the military. Trust me it won’t be hard.”
He pulled me to him and kissed me hard, “Well I’m glad I have my bodyguard to keep me from getting bullied at work,” he said with a smirk, causing me to laugh. I heard a buzzing coming from the nightstand, so I released Fox and picked up my phone. Bug detected. “Wha-” I shook my head and put my finger to my lips, cutting Fox off from whatever he was about to say. I slipped off my dress and swiped my phone over it. My phone beeped as it swiped it over the waistband. I pulled back the zipper cover and found the bug slipped under the cover. “Is that?” Fox linked me.
I nodded and linked back, “He must have slipped in when we were dancing.” I plugged the small bug into my computer. I quickly traced the bug back to its broadcast origin. I slipped on some mission clothes, “I’m going to pay our little infester a visit.”
“Be safe,” he linked me with a kiss.
I made it to the Rear Admiral’s office quickly. Once inside the office, the door slowly closed behind me. “I thought you might find that,” I slowly turned toward the voice, “It is nice to meet you, Ghost.”
“I don’t know what you’re talking about,” I held the bug up, “I’m just here to return your bug.”
I settled myself into his desk chair. He started to talk, but I held up my finger. I grabbed his desk phone, typing in the number of someone who could stop this bullshit. “What?” A gruff voice answered on the other line.
“Hey Uncle Mark. Can you come down to Rear Admiral Robert Jamison’s office please?”
“Why? You haven’t killed him have you?” He asked, making me laugh.
“Not yet, but the night is still young.”
He chuckled quietly, “I’ll be there soon.”
I leaned back in his chair and put my feet up on his desk, “Who was that?”
“You’ll find out in,” I checked my watch, “About ten minutes.”
We waited in mostly silence until Mark walked into Robert’s office without knocking. Robert jumped to his feet and saluted Mark, who barely spared him a glance as he looked over at me. “What’s going on here Amaya?”
I sat up, placing my hands on the desk, “Rear Admiral Robert, would you like to explain why I’ve had to ask the Vice Admiral here tonight?”
Mark turned to Robert, “Let’s have it.”
Without dropping the salute, Robert began explaining. Mark looked over at me when he was finished, “He left out the part where he threatened my boyfriend at the ball tonight because I wouldn’t give him information about The Ghost that I didn’t have. He then planted a bug in my dress.”
“He planted a bug on you?” Mark replied incredulously, “You’re getting slow kid.”
I laughed, “Yeah, yeah, old man. I can still kick your ass.”
Mark laughed, “So what do you need me for?”
“I would like some sort of discipline done to him, and reassurance my boyfriend won’t be treated poorly because I don’t have the answers this dip shit is looking for, and I really just needed you here to show him I did in fact have the contacts needed to strip him of his rank.”
“Trust me he will be severely punished. If he gives you or your boyfriend any other issues, let me know immediately.”
“Thank you.”
“Of course. Let me walk you out, and you can tell me more about this boyfriend.”
“Aunt Linda didn’t come with you?” I asked, standing from my seat.
“Of course she did. There was no way she was going to stay home when we haven’t seen you in months.” He held the door open for me, and as I passed by him, he turned to Robert, “We will be meeting first thing in the morning to discuss your involvement in what happened tonight.”
“Sorry I haven’t been to see you guys lately. I’ve been busy with work.”
“Your dad told me,” once we made it outside, he pulled me in for a hug, “Thanks for your help bringing down those traitors in Arlington and for saving those SEALs.”
“Any time,” I said with a small smile.
“So tell me about this guy.”
I sighed, “I met him when I was at SEAL training with Daniel. He was on the team my team and I just saved.”
“Daniel’s met him? And the guy is still alive?”
I laughed, “Somehow.”
We made it out to their car where Linda was waiting. When she saw me, she opened her arms wide, and I went into them happily. I rested my head on her head as she was almost a foot shorter than me, “Hey kiddo,” she pulled back to look me over, “You’ve gotten so big.”
“You’re shorter than I remember,” I responded with a smirk as she swatted me. “Do you guys want to come back to the hotel and meet my boyfriend?”
“Are you sure you want him anywhere near your boyfriend?” Linda asked, pointing to Mark.
“Definitely. It’s going to shock the shit out of him to have the Vice Admiral in his hotel room.”
“He’s in the Navy?”
“Of course! Uncle Mark wouldn’t let me in the house if I were to date anyone else,” I said with a chuckle.
“Damn straight,” Mark said, putting a hand around my shoulder, “Where are you two staying?”
“We’re at the JW Marriott.” I gave Mark and Linda both a hug before stepping back, “I’ll see you guys there.”
