Amaya’s POV
“Dad?” I mind linked Daniel, who took no time responding.
“Amaya you’re awake?”
“Yeah.”
“I’ll be right up, unless you and Fox are naked.”
I laughed aloud, causing Fox to smile, “We’re not naked. Yet. So you should get up here quick before we change our minds.”
I heard a muffled laugh from Daniel downstairs as he began his ascent. Once he made it into our room, he wrapped his arms around me, and just hung on as another round of tears spilled out of my eyes. Fox watched on quietly, rubbing my back as I cried myself out into Daniel’s chest.
“Is Josie still here?” Fox asked Daniel quietly, who didn’t respond.
We heard someone running up the stairs before Josie burst into the room. “Give her to me,” she said with a smack to Daniel’s arm, causing Daniel to growl low. “I don’t care. Give her to me.”
Daniel finally sighed and pulled back, holding my face and looking into my eyes, “One day, I’m going to kill her, then I can hug you as long as I like because Fox would never be as bold as Josie.” I laughed, “Goddess how I’ve missed that laugh. It’s good to have you back,” he said before turning me over to Josie, who held me tightly against her.
“I thought we made a deal.”
“What?”
“We made a deal that you wouldn’t faint and then not wake up for a few days, and don’t think you found a work around by fainting and not waking up for several weeks because that’s not a work around, it’s just mean.”
“Right. That deal,” I pulled back slightly, “I’m sorry Jos. It wasn’t intentional, I promise.”
“And it wasn’t your fault, but you have to promise me this is the last time something like this will happen.” Josie said before pulling me back to her, “I couldn’t handle anything like this again.”
“I promise I will do everything in my power to never have this happen again.”
“I love you, Amaya,” she said into my chest, her body finally relaxing against mine, “It’s really good to have you back.”
“Love you too, Jos.” We stayed wrapped in each other’s arms for a while until finally we pulled apart, “Is Jace here?” I looked around the room, realizing for the first time we were still at Mathias’s house.
Daniel shook his head, “He headed home a couple of days ago to look after everything while we’re both here. Mark and Linda stopped by. You’ll need to give them a call.”
I looked at Daniel shocked, “Do they know?” Daniel nodded, “How did they find us?”
“Mark tracked Fox’s phone,” Daniel said with a chuckle. “I explained the broad strokes of everything. They left several days ago, but they asked us to call as soon as you woke up.”
“We’ll have to call them in a bit,” I said, grabbing Fox’s hand. “What happened to Basil?”
“Leandra and Aurelia took him to the high council for his trial. The high council has been after him for decades for his crimes against the supernatural community,” Daniel responded.
I nodded, “Good. I couldn’t convince him to stop helping Joseph, so it’s good he’ll stand trial for all that he’s done in the service of Joseph.”
I looked over at Fox, and as if he was reading my mind; he got up from his spot on the bed, “Okay. I think it’s time for Amaya to clean up. We’ll be down once we’re done.”
“Yeah. You do stink. I didn’t want to say anything, but, man, do you stink,” Josie said, scrunching up her nose in mock disgust.
I laughed, “Fuck off asshole.” I shoved her off the bed, “Get out of my room.”
She laughed along with me before touching her forehead to mine and leaving. “See you in a bit,” Daniel said before doing the same.
“Just go slow, babe,” Fox said, grabbing my arms as I moved my legs off the edge of the bed. I slowly started to stand, testing my weight on my legs. My legs gave out, causing Fox to purse his lips, “Let me carry you.”
I stood back up, my legs holding this time, “I’ve got it.” Fox sighed, “I have to walk at some point Fox, it may as well be now.”
We slowly made our way into the bathroom, and Fox left me on the toilet to run the bath water. I quickly did my business before he came back to help me to my feet. Once we made it to the tub, he helped me strip out of the clothes they must have put on me once bringing me back. I looked over in the mirror expecting my body to be thin, but it was as if I was never in a coma. I simply had more scars, “How is it I lost more weight than you did?” Fox asked with a small smile.
“I don’t know. Maybe it has to do with the reason I was in the coma?” I responded with a shrug as he helped me into the bath. “You’re not getting in with me?”
“Do you want me to?”
“What kind of a question is that? Of course I want you in here,” I don’t even get the last part out before he’s stripping down and stepping into the tub, causing me to laugh.
“Can I kiss you?” He asked, inching his face closer and closer to mine.
I smiled, “Yes,” I whispered, and he crashed his lips down on mine. We kissed for what felt like hours. Finally I broke the kiss, smiling at Fox as I traced his features. “I love you so much.”
His face split into a wide grin before he kissed me hard. “I love you too,” he said between kisses.
We took our time bathing one another, but when Fox started to shave his beard; I stopped him, “I really like the beard.”
A small smile crossed his lips, “I’ll have to shave it when I go back to work,” he kissed me gently, “But for now it can stay.”
Once we finished our bath, Fox helped me down the stairs although I was feeling steadier on my feet. “Amaya! It’s so good to see you up and about!” Rosalie beamed as we walked into the dining room.
“It’s good to be up and about,” I responded with a small smile. She embraced me with a gentle squeeze.
She passed me off to Mathias once our dragons connected. “It’s good to have you on your feet.”
I looked over at Daniel once Mathias and I separated, “Jax didn’t come up?”
“He was here for a few days, but he had to get back,” Fox responded, gently rubbing my back. “The team couldn’t be down two members. They shipped out a couple of weeks ago.”
I looked from Daniel to Fox then back at Daniel, “Don’t worry. Lavi and Lyosha double checked the intel. It’s good. We haven’t had any more issues since you helped take down Kemp.”
I let out a sigh of relief, “Come on, let’s eat,” Rosalie said with a small smile on her face.
As we ate, everyone caught me up on everything that happened once the battle ended. “So those that were fighting against us are just being held?”
“Yep. We decided you were needed before the proceedings started,” Daniel responded.
I nodded, “What’s happening in LeBlanc’s clan?”
“Riku and Elin are down there running things until we decide what can be done, but it looks like the head warriors are more than fit to take over leadership of the clan,” Rosalie said.
“I would like to start the trials tomorrow, if I can.”
“You’re welcome to have them here. It’ll be more convenient considering most of them are being held here,” Mathias offered.
“I just hope the clan leaders are able to make it,” I commented quietly.
“I’ll make some calls,” Daniel said reassuringly, “A few more days won’t hurt those being held, if they can’t make it tomorrow.”
